- Training
Opportunities
- Each
week we try to include training announcments from academies and
training organizations. This week we have two announcements from the
Roanoke, VA Police Academy.
The first is a course entitled '''Evidence Recovery''' that will be
conducted on September 13, 2007.
This 8 hour block of instruction will focus on the recovery of evidence
and the proper methods for securing and documenting evidence for court.
This class will have the focus on the
identification of DNA evidence
and the officer's responsibility to identify the potential of that
evidence. This class will cover case studies of improperly collected
evidence and provide the student with the understanding of common
mistakes made in the collection of evidence. This class is designed for
both patrol officers and investigators.
The second course is entitled '''Basic Forensic Evidence''' and it will
be conducted October 29 - November 9, 2007.
This two week course will include the identification, documentation,
packaging, collecting and processing of a crime scene evidence. There
is $350 fee for this school for outside agencies.
Outside jurisdictions can contact Ms. Absher at the Roanoke Police
Academy (540) 853-2649 for registration information. For further course
details contact Sergeant Rick Morrison (540) 853-5437.

User's Tip
This tip will
help you if you ever forget your Windows password. Thanks to XP's
Forgotten Password Wizard you can recover your password.
We suggest that you create a password recovery disk the minute you
create your user account. In order to create a password recovery disk
you're going to need your password. Write it down the minute you create
your user account and then proceed to creating your very own password
recovery disk.
Here's how to launch the Forgotten Password Wizard:
- Single-click Start menu, Control Panel, and User
Accounts.
- Click your user account name.
- Under Related Tasks on the left, click "Prevent forgotten
password" to launch the wizard.
Once you've launched the wizard, let it walk you through creating the
recovery disk. Make sure the formatted disk you is in the drive. After
it's finished creating the disk, label it and store it with your other
emergency disks.
If you happen to forget your password, all you need to do is click your
user icon at the logon screen. Even though you don't have your
password, go ahead and click the green arrow just like you would to
finish logging on to your computer. This will launch a little yellow
dialog box directing you to use your password recovery disk.
- Mac
User's Tip
Every now and
then a Mac user may have a problem with an application and it may
become necessary to force quit the application. To pull up the Force
Quit Applications dialog, press [Command+Option+Escape] . Select any
application from the list and click "Force Quit."
Rich also told everyone about his quest for two pieces of software that
he needed to round out the tools for the Mac.
