special to me and to the early CopCAST listeners, Deputy Steve Ferguson

User's Tip
Are you one of
the millions of Windows users who get a message that you have unused
icons on your desktop when you start up your computer? It gets kind of
annoying after a few years, doesn't it? This is the Cleanup Wizard,
another of those Windows features that can drive you crazy. Its purpose
is to remove icons that you don't use very often.
If you click on the message, you get a list of icons that you seldom
use. You can deselect the ones that you do not want. The weird thing is
that Windows creates a desktop folder to store the deselected icons. To
restore an icon, you can double-click the folder and drag the icon you
want onto the desktop. Am I missing something here?
To stop this maddness:
- Right-click an empty area of the desktop.
- Click Properties and select the Desktop tab.
- Click Customize Desktop.
- Clear the box next to "Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60
days."
- Click OK>>OK.
- Mac
User's Tip
Finder is not the
best application launcher for the Mac but it is fine for most simple
stuff. Here are a couple of tips to make finder a more user friendly.
When opening a folder in Finder, hold the [Command] key while clicking
to open the folder in a new window.
You can also hold the [Option] key while clicking to open the folder in
a new window and close the old window.
