User's Tip
If you are a
Windows power user, it can be a real pain to get back to your desk top
when you have several windows open. To minimize all open windows and
get to the desktop, press the Windows key and M key at the same time.
To reverse the effect, press Shift + Windows + M. If you prefer the
mouse, click the Show Desktop button in the Quick Launch bar; it does
the same thing.
- Mac
User's Tip
If
you’re looking for a safe, secure way to protect sensitive data on your
Mac, there’s no easier way than to create an encrypted image using Disk
Utility. Since disk images are the default distribution tool for Mac
files, secure disk images are a natural progression to securely
transfer or protect files.
I will put the steps for creating the disk image in the Shownotes. Once
created, you will need to enter a password in the Password text box of
the Authenticate dialog box. Assuming the passwords match, the image
then mounts on the desktop, ready for you to load files to.
Now, when you load the image (by simply double-clicking on the icon),
you’ll be requested to enter the password. Assuming you enter the
password correctly, the disk image loads as a volume in the Finder.
To create an encrypted disk image:
- Launch the Disk Utility application (located at /Applications/Utilities folder).
- Click the New Image icon on the Disk Utility toolbar.
- Enter a name for the disk image in the Save As text field.
- Choose an appropriate size for the disk image from the Size pop-up menu.
- Select the AES-128 (recommended) option from the Encryption pop-up menu.
- Choose the Read/Write Disk Image from the Format pop-up menu.
- Click the Create button to complete the image.
